Complete Colostrum - ImmunePower is the real thing!
What happens when you refine foods? We take ingredients out – only to have to fortify the food in order to give it back some nutritional value. But as hard as we try, fortification can never match the integrity and balance of the original whole food. The same is true with colostrum. Many colostrum products on the market today have been refined in some way. Some have been screened or filtered for immunoglobulins, others have been de-fatted or had the lactose removed. Some manufacturers even add milk lipid (fat) molecules back into the product after it has been de-fatted. Does this sound like refining and fortifying?
The truth of the matter is, colostrum, like all foods, is better when it is consumed whole or complete and as fresh as possible. The less it is processed, the better. Every consumer ought to understand what they are missing when they purchase a refined (de-fatted or filtered) colostrum product.
Defatting removes approximately 50% of the highly prized growth factor, IGF-1. The loss of IGF-1 is not a simple matter. This important growth factor is the master key to a whole array of interactions and processes. Losing IGF-1 means a significant reduction in the regenerative or anti-aging benefits. It also means a reduction in the muscle building capacity, the energy potential and especially the ability to repair damaged tissues. Deflating also removes large portions of the fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K and other growth promoters which are associated with the fat in colostrum. In many ways, defatted colostrum is like white flour-just a skeleton of the original whole food. “High Ig” products have been refined in another way and have similar drawbacks. In order to obtain a high lg (high immunoglobulin) colostrum, it must be screened or filtered – a process which selects for one main immunoglobulin. The filtering process removes many of the other components, especially the prized growth factor portion. While high lg colostrum has a higher concentration of antibodies, the resulting product does not necessarily provide greater protection from more infectious organisms – it merely concentrates the existing antibodies while removing other important factors.
Those who are seeking additional immune support should keep in mind that immunoglobulins are only a small part of the immune support available from true colostrum. It is the balance of immune factors and growth factors, working together to strengthen and support immune function, that make complete colostrum such an amazing substance.
